Umoljani lies on the sunny southeastern slopes of the Bjelašnica mountain at an altitude of around 1,300 metres and near the Rakitnica Gorge. Culture and History

The Old Mosque in Umoljani dates back to 1716. The historic surroundings also include the necropolises with stećci, old nišans and the remains of a medieval structure at the Dolovi site in the settlement of Umoljani. These sites are a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Umoljani Mosque itself also preserves visible traces of different eras: its stone minaret was built in the 1930s, while a large number of stećci were incorporated into its foundations.

Ganga is part of the cultural heritage and remains a living element of the folklore of Umoljani and Lukomir to this day. Another local story connects the landscape with the legend of Umoljani: According to the Aždaja legend, the aždaja was turned to stone, and its tail created the Studeni Potok. Mountain Landscape and Trails

Access to the Studeni Potok begins near several katuns. From there, the view opens onto the field through which the stream flows. A walk across this field to the end of the Studeni Potok takes about 20 minutes. Those who continue along the narrow marked mountain trail from the Studeni Potok reach Lukomir in approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. This time indication remains an approximate duration for the route.

The “Umoljanske čarape” programme protects and promotes traditionally hand-knitted socks from the mountain village of Umoljani in Bjelašnica. The tour of the same name in Umoljani on Bjelašnica lasts four hours. It leads from Umoljani to Gradina, where visitors meet female knitters, and then continues on foot to the Studeni Potok.

During the summer months, visitors meet local female knitters in Gradina who knit Priglavke, Pape, Dugalje and other wool products. The “Umoljanske čarape” tour also includes tasting local products and gastronomic specialities at a farm. Near Gradina, a rural organic lunch can be enjoyed at PG Bešlagić by prior arrangement.
