Discover Hadžići: Gradac, Igman and cultural events

In the centre of present-day Hadžići, the Margetino-Groblje cemetery, with its stećci, points to a medieval settlement. The historic area of Gradac is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The monument area includes a prehistoric hillfort, Roman monuments, a medieval town, the foundations of a medieval church, a necropolis with stećci and a quarry.

History and culture

The “Ivan Planina” Cultural and Artistic Society from Hadžići has preserved and promoted the cultural heritage for more than 75 years. It presents the folk traditions of Hadžići through a preparatory children's ensemble, a children's ensemble and a performance ensemble. The repertoire includes dances of the Muslim community from Hadžići as well as dances of the Orthodox community from Sarajevo Polje. Historical testimonies and living traditions are therefore presented side by side in different forms.

Hadžićko ljeto is regarded as a recognised cultural event in Hadžići. The programme planned for the period from 26 June to 9 August 2026 included exhibitions, theatre performances, film screenings, art workshops, concerts, family activities, food festivals and mountain festivals. Overall, Hadžićko ljeto 2026 was intended to include more than 50 cultural, sporting, entertainment and social activities at over 15 locations in the municipality of Hadžići. The defined period and the large number of different venues give this programme a clearly defined framework.

Mountains and trails

The Planinski festival Brezovača 2026 took place on 25 July 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at the Planinarski dom Brezovača on Igman. It was the fourth edition of the event.

The Planinarsko sportsko društvo Brezovača Hadžići promotes hiking and mountain sports, teaches knowledge about marked trails and develops mountaineering skills among its members and other mountain enthusiasts. A hiking trail on Igman was presented as an opportunity for walking, recreation, learning and connecting with nature. More than 60 kilometres of hiking trails in the municipality of Hadžići had been mapped and digitised; modern signage had also been installed.

The different focuses on culture, mountain sports, hiking and winter sports can be compared when planning independently. In Šavnici, there is a modern ski slope and a ski lodge with more than 50 beds. This results in clearly separate topics for Hadžići: a single festival date, organised mountain sports activities, the described Igman trail, a mapped trail network and the winter sports offering in Šavnici.

Regional specialities

Cheese and kajmak from the villages of Bjelašnica are regarded as distinctive specialities. These two products mentioned complement the historical, cultural and mountain-related aspects with an independent regional connection.

These fields help distinguish the framework of an offering, while Gradac, Igman, cultural events and regional specialities identify the destination's thematic content.
