Holiday apartment in Årjäng: Lakes, nature and culture

Årjäng Municipality is characterised by a landscape of forest pools and lakes, forests and open countryside.

Nature and landscape

Tegen is located south of Årjäng in the lake-rich forest landscape. The area is an unusually well-preserved example of traditional hay meadow farming. Tegen also has a very species-rich meadow flora; remnants of fences, clearance cairns and paths bear witness to the former small-scale farming. In the Tegen Nature Reserve, an approximately 800-metre-long hiking trail begins at the entrance.

Kesebotten also combines natural richness with a distinctive landscape history. The old deciduous trees and deadwood provide a habitat for numerous species that have been heavily displaced in today's forest landscape. Kesebotten is part of the Natura 2000 network of valuable natural areas of the European Union. The barrier on the main road near Kesebotten is closed all year round; from the barrier to the nature reserve it is approximately 3 kilometres.

Katjärn is a small, almost mythical-looking forest pool not far from Årjäng. To the northwest rises Tjäderåsen, a 70-metre-high ridge that drops almost vertically towards the water. The municipality's natural areas invite visitors to enjoy walks and hikes all year round.

Lakes and waterways

The DANO lake system extends through the entire Årjäng Municipality, continues through Dalsland and flows into Lake Vänern at Köpmannebro. Maps for boat trips and canoe tours are available for the lake system. When the winter ice is sufficiently thick, it is also suitable for long-distance ice skating; Friluftsfrämjandet in Årjäng organises tours for this purpose.

Cycling and Lennartsfors

The national Unionsleden cycle route runs through Lennartsfors and leads between Moss in the west and Karlstad in the east. The Unionsleden is an approximately 350-kilometre-long cycle route between Karlstad and Moss. It mostly follows quiet roads with little traffic, but also uses larger roads on some sections.

Lundvie Keramik has been established in Lennartsfors since 1982. Handmade utility ceramics and unique pieces, mainly made of stoneware, are produced there. Lennartsfors is also home to a lock staircase with three locks and a total height difference of 7.5 metres; this is followed by a canal blasted through the rock.

Culture and regional destinations

The Sculpture Promenade is a 3-kilometre-long sculpture trail between the urban area of Årjäng and Kyrkerud Folk High School. Most of the sculptures along the Sculpture Promenade are made of Bohus granite.

Silbodals Kyrka church is located in the vicinity of Årjäng Municipality. In the wider regional surroundings of Årjäng Municipality are Bernhusfossen waterfall, Silleruds Kyrka church, Strømfoss waterfall, the island of Viksøya, the island of Kirkebyøya, Järnskogs Kyrka church and Glava Kyrka church.

The car wrecks in Båstnäs are regarded as an installation shaped by nature. Båstnäs has become a cultural meeting place for artists and, above all, photographers from all over the world.
