Holiday apartment in Hammarö: Nature, lighthouse and Vänern trails

At Hammarö sydspets, cliff-lined shores, rocky pine forests, alder marshes, coastal meadows and reed-filled bays meet. A total of 265 bird species had been observed there by 2023. This area includes hiking trails and rest areas that are easy to find and easy to walk. From the car park at Hammarö sydspets, it is about 800 metres on foot to the southern tip and Skage Lighthouse. Culture and history

A prominent historical destination at the southern tip is Hammarö Skage Lighthouse. It was built on Storholmen in 1872 and has served as a sea mark since it was extinguished in January 1932. Hammarö Skage is considered one of the best-preserved older lighthouse complexes on Lake Vänern.

Hammarö Skärgårdsmuseum is based on a unique collection of objects from the historic Vänern fishery. It preserves old wooden boats and has a jetty where visitors can fish and observe life underwater. Different historical periods also meet at Hammarö kyrka: the wooden church, clad in wooden shingles, originated in the 12th century and acquired its present cruciform appearance in 1748.

Hammarö hembygdsgård houses historical household objects and documents, a school museum furnished as a period classroom, as well as traditional Hammarö boats and old fishing equipment. Around Hammars udde, a QR-coded cultural walk leads to 20 stations where sites of cultural and historical significance can be experienced. Hammars udde is also home to an Iron Age stone circle.

Trails and activities

Kilenegården is Hammarö's largest outdoor and leisure centre. It has hiking trails, training tracks, an outdoor exercise area, several barbecue areas and a playground. For use in the dark, there are two different reflective trails: one is 900 metres long, while the other covers 4.9 kilometres.

The Pilgrimsleden on Hammars udde is about three kilometres long. It runs between fields and water, through the forest and back along an existing gravel road; parts of it are accessible. The path to Bonäsudden passes the Getingberget bathing area, where a toilet is available. Bonäsudden has a wind shelter, benches and a fire pit.

At Lillängshamnen, Skärgårdspromenaden leads from the harbour area over the rocks past St Olofs gryta. This trail is fully accessible. The hiking trail near Lake Vänern begins at Kilenegården and runs for about 5.2 kilometres to Bonäsudden: through varied coniferous and birch forests, over footbridges in the reeds and along rocky shores with views of Lake Vänern.

Behind Stora Coop in Nolgård, an accessible path about 250 metres long leads to a birdwatching tower with benches and tables. For longer distances, the north-western section of Vänerleden runs from Åmål via Hammarö to Karlstad and is 126 kilometres long. Hammarö also offers good opportunities to explore the island by bicycle.

At KAYAKOMAT Hammarö near Mörudden, paddlers can reach Hammarö's bays. With experience and in good weather, several islands such as Söön can also be reached from there. In summer, Bo buses travel to and from Hammarö, allowing visitors to experience the archipelago landscape of Lake Vänern; Värmlandstrafik operates the service with three route sections on Hammarö.

Near Lillängshamnen, there is a restaurant, a fish smokehouse and a delicatessen. Local products can be sampled there, and meals can be enjoyed with a view of the lake.
