Töcksfors combines a distinctive waterscape with short circular trails, a notable cycling stage and traces of ironworking. The Töcksfors Canal lies 112 metres above sea level and is Sweden’s highest-altitude canal with a connection to the sea. Those looking for a holiday apartment in Töcksfors will find a place where nature experiences, activity and local history can be combined in different daily itineraries.

Canal and water shape the town

The canal is a good starting point for discovering Töcksfors on foot. The Strandpromenaden circular route follows a short loop along the eastern side of the canal above Övre slussen. Seating areas in Kanalparken invite you to take a break; there are also two sculptures there. Another point of orientation is Töcksfors guest harbour: it lies in the northern part of Lake Foxen and has 14 guest berths. These different connections to the water give your stay several possible focal points without requiring you to commit to just one way of travelling.

Circular trails for different daily itineraries

Three attractive and easily accessible circular trails begin in central Töcksfors at Kioskparken, including Prästnäsrundan. Prästnäsrundan is 4 km long and follows a pedestrian and cycle path. It can therefore be incorporated into your personal daily itinerary as a clearly defined route. Kärleksstigen is 3 km long and includes a footpath as well as pedestrian and cycle paths. If you are looking for another short trail idea, you can choose the small Strandpromenaden loop along the canal.

This distinction between short loops and a longer stage is also useful when choosing accommodation: if you prefer spontaneous walks or a manageable route, you can look for a holiday apartment in Töcksfors and include the trails around Kioskparken in your plans. The specific route lengths also help you structure your stay according to your own preferences without assuming a particular walking time.

Cycling on Unionsleden

Töcksfors also offers a clearly defined starting point for a cycling trip. Unionsleden is Sweden’s fourth national cycle route. Its 41.2-km third stage runs from Töcksfors to Lennartsfors. The distance is an important factor in planning the day and is particularly appealing to travellers who want to include the town in a longer cycling route. When looking for a holiday home or holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether short local loops or an extended cycling stage should account for the greater share of your stay.

Industrial history around Kioskparken

Töcksfors also has a history that can be traced through specific places and names. In 1797, the pastor Sven Dahlman from Holmedal and the regimental clerk Anders Atterberg from Liane received permission for two tilt hammers and two nail hammers for the ironworks “Jernmanufaturverk vid Tyxfors”. Kioskparken contains a small park with a replica of Sanamonskiosken and a historical exhibition. Opposite Kioskparken stands one of the old large Stångjärnshämmer. A walk through Töcksfors can therefore also become an encounter with the area’s industrial history.

Choose accommodation to suit your pace of travel

The decision to stay in a holiday apartment or holiday home in Töcksfors depends above all on which of these aspects you want to combine: the canal and Foxen, the short circular trails, the 41.2-km cycling stage or the history around Kioskparken. Families can alternate each day between a short loop, a break at the seating areas and a historical place of interest. For active days, Unionsleden remains a clearly defined option. When choosing your accommodation, it is therefore worth considering your preferred daily rhythm and the activities you actually plan to include.
