Holiday apartment in Borgvik – industrial history on the Borgviksälven
Borgvik is a well-preserved former industrial town on the Borgviksälven in Grums Municipality. The historic setting reflects Värmland’s industrial development from 1600 to 1900, which was shaped primarily by sawmills, wood processing and iron production. Borgvik is designated as a national cultural heritage site of special interest.
Culture and history
The industrial past is particularly vividly illustrated by the former facilities: in the 19th century, the Borgvik ironworks had two hammer mills, three sawmills and seven mills. Numerous buildings and surroundings of cultural and historical interest date mainly from the ironworks era of the 18th and 19th centuries. A connection to international architectural history has also been preserved: steel from Borgvik was sent to Paris for the construction of the Eiffel Tower.
Borgvik Museum was originally housed in a granary that was used for drying grain. In 1983, the granary was converted into Borgvik Museum in connection with Billerud’s 100th anniversary. Today, the museum enables digital searches for historical information about places and people in Borgvik.
Other cultural sites explore different chapters of the region’s history. Sliperiet is a gallery for modern art in a former pulp mill. Today’s Kungskvarnen dates from the early 19th century and is now a restaurant and conference centre.
Nature and water
Borgvik is home to one of Sweden’s northernmost beech forests. The water-based activities also include a specific rental option: in Borgvik, a boat can be rented for fishing or excursions; it is available with a petrol or electric motor.
Getting around
The seventh stage of the Unionsleden runs from Borgvik to Karlstad, is 60.9 kilometres long and is designated for cycling. Along the Unionsleden, Borgvik is designated as a stopover for culture, leisure and overnight stays.

Also check what occupancy an offer is intended for, which services are already included and what components make up the price. It is also worth looking at the exact location and the specified accommodation type, as well as the maximum occupancy. For the services, individual included components should be clearly distinguished from optional details; for the price, check which costs are already included and which are listed separately. The booking and cancellation conditions stated there are equally important. This makes it possible to compare holiday apartments using clear, verifiable criteria before choosing an offer. You can then view and compare the current offers directly.
