Discover Alberic: Churches, Cisterns and Orange Groves

Alberic invites visitors to discover a place where religious buildings, water facilities, orange grove landscapes and the River Júcar reveal its different sides. The Iglesia Parroquial de San Lorenzo Mártir was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. The Antiguo Convento de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles dates from the 18th century.

The combination of buildings, paths, festivals and pastries allows different interests to coexist. You can focus on architecture, activity or local traditions without any one of these approaches replacing the others.

Culture

The Ermita de la Virgen de Cullera is located in Alberic’s La Troneta neighbourhood. An Arab cistern on the Plaza de la Constitución is considered one of the largest in the Comunitat Valenciana. The antigua casa consistorial, the former town hall, dates from the 18th century. A walk through Alberic reveals various traditional and grand houses.

The streets of Alberic form an open-air museum of urban art. Another water facility is the cistern of Alberic’s former manor palace, a hydraulic structure built in the 13th century. It is the only surviving element of the former manor palace, after the building was demolished in the 19th century.

Outside Alberic, the Ermita de Santa Bárbara is located on the “Muntanyeta”. It can be reached on foot.

Landscape and Paths

Alberic’s orange grove landscapes invite visitors to explore them by bicycle. Visitors can walk along the River Júcar by following its course. There are routes to destinations such as the Cova de la Terreta. The choice can be tailored to the desired combination of cycling, the river course and a named destination.

You can shape your days in Alberic according to your own rhythm and combine different interests. No fixed order is required: individual impressions can be taken in one after another or explored more deeply with breaks in between. Local Traditions

Panquemaos or Monas are highlighted in Alberic as sweet pastries of Arab origin. The Panquemao tradition has its own festival in October.

On 8 October, the members of the Gremio de Horneros give residents a Panquemao tasting and a cup of hot chocolate. Domingo de Ramos is a day with numerous traditions in Alberic.
