With the Ruta dels Miradors, Rossell places a specific connection to the landscape at the centre of attention: the circular tourist route runs through the municipality and uses panoramic information panels for landscape interpretation. In this way, the route combines movement through the area with marked viewpoints and an explanatory perspective on the landscape.

The Ruta dels Miradors can be travelled by car. The Sant Marc panoramic information panel offers views of the landscape of the southern Maestrat. Thus, on this part of the route, the drivable route and the view stand alongside one another as distinct features.

Part of the municipality of Rossell lies within the Parc Natural de la Tinença de Benifassà. The municipality encompasses mountain, mid-mountain, and lowland areas. These three landscape forms describe the spatial changes within Rossell, while the nature park adds a protected landscape dimension.

The Ermita de Sant Marc is situated in a pine grove overlooking the Mediterranean. At the Ermita de Sant Marc, there is a covered shelter with ten fireplaces. The viewpoint, hermitage, pine grove, and shelter are clearly distinct points of interest in the surroundings of the route.

The municipality of Rossell provides information on routes in its municipal area, GPS tracks, and guided routes in the Parc Natural de la Tinença de Benifassà. This makes it possible to consider the landscape forms, the view at Sant Marc, and the available route information separately when preparing for a visit.

Culture and History

The Cova de les Bruixes contains Neolithic remains. Thanks to its portal, the parish church of Sant Jaume de Bel is considered the clearest example of Romanesque architecture in the comarca. The two sites represent different historical connections: archaeological remains and a Romanesque church portal come together here.

The parish church of Rossell has a Baroque façade with Classical influences and is dated to the 18th century. Alongside the Romanesque architecture of Sant Jaume de Bel, this adds another ecclesiastical-historical accent, revealed through a different era and a different façade design.

The Centro Cívico “Molí Vell” is located at a former olive mill site. It houses exhibitions, meetings, and various activities of local associations. On the ground floor of the Centro Cívico “Molí Vell” are the last millstones and part of the restored equipment used to mill olives in the 1950s and 1960s.

A historic site in Rossell served mainly as a grain mill, fulling mill, and power station. Together with the former olive mill site of “Molí Vell”, this reveals several uses connected with mills and the history of local supplies.

Local Life and Baking Traditions

Since 1991, Rossell has hosted the Fira Multisectorial de Sant Josep; the Pastisset is considered an emblematic sweet pastry of the local baking tradition. The festival and the pastry complement the landscape and mill-related themes with a recurring event and a local culinary speciality.
