Culture
In Benicarló, the archaeological site of Puig de la Nau leads into a distant past: it originated in the Late Bronze Age; however, most of the structures visible during the visit belong to the Iberian culture. The ruins of Puig de la Nau can be visited all year round by prior appointment with the MUCBE.
The MUCBE is housed in a restored former Franciscan monastery. In the permanent exhibition “Terra d'Ibers”, the MUCBE explains who the Iberians were and how they lived more than 2,500 years ago. During an arranged guided tour through the historic centre of Benicarló, the tour begins at the MUCBE and continues to the traditional Casa benicarlanda, the old prison, the former Casa de la Vila and Casa de la Baronessa. Casa Bosch is a modernist building in Benicarló. The parish church of San Bartolomé Apóstol dates from the 18th century. The Iberian settlement of Benicarló can be visited all year round by prior appointment by telephone or in writing.
If you would like to explore history not only through individual buildings but also through an exhibition or a guided tour, you can arrange the sightseeing options according to your preferred daily schedule.
Routes
There are seven signposted health routes and healthy walking trails in the municipality of Benicarló, which can be travelled on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. The Route de los Mojones y Hornos de Cal can be travelled on foot or by bicycle and passes around 20 boundary markers and around 10 lime kilns in the western part of the municipality of Benicarló. The different means of transport provide a clear basis for comparison when arranging routes by walking, cycling or horseback riding. For daily planning, you can treat appointment requirements and means of transport as two separate criteria.
Coast
Mar Xica is an area approximately 1,000 metres long and 20 metres wide next to the marina in the northern part of Benicarló. Mar Xica can be reached by car via the N-340 and a car park; you can also walk there from Benicarló. Information about sea conditions is available for Morrongo Beach. The coastal information can be read separately for planning according to location, route and sea conditions.
When planning a holiday apartment in Benicarló, you can compare travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions on the respective accommodation page. For choosing a location, the focuses on culture, routes and the coast can be considered side by side. Your preferred daily rhythm can determine which of this information you check first. The order remains up to your own daily plans.
