Culture and History
The Beneixama Archaeological Museum is located in the Torre Atalaya. The Torre Atalaya is first mentioned as early as 1254 and shows a clearly identifiable Almohad construction phase; a second construction phase dates from the period after the conquest.
The Beneixama Ethnographic Museum is housed in the former washhouse building. It displays tools, household items, furniture and books documenting the lives of Beneixama's more recent ancestors.
The parish church of San Juan Bautista was inaugurated in 1841 and has nine side chapels dedicated to various saints. The church also contains two large oil triptychs by the local artist José Navarro Ferrero.
The Museo Navarro Ferrero pays tribute to the local artist José Navarro Ferrero and provides an overview of his artistic life and the various movements that influenced him.
Festivals and Local Cuisine
At the beginning of October, the fair “Beneixama al carrer, xe que bo!” takes place, showcasing activities and products from local businesses and associations. Various events for the festival of San Isidro Labrador take place in the natural setting of Paraje La Talaeta; the festival is celebrated on the weekend closest to the feast day of San Isidro.
The Ermita de San Isidro Labrador near La Talaeta offers extensive panoramic views over the Vinalopó Valley from a 740-metre-high plateau approximately 2 km from Beneixama. Since the inauguration of the Ermita de San Isidro Labrador, a pilgrimage to this chapel has taken place every year on the occasion of the festival of San Isidro.
The Ermita de San Vicente Ferrer was built in honour of Saint Vincent Ferrer, the patron saint of the hamlet of El Salze. The Fiestas de San Vicente Ferrer of El Salze are celebrated on the Monday of the second week of Easter in honour of Saint Vincent Ferrer.
At the Festes de Moros i Cristians en honor a la Divina Aurora de Beneixama, the Soldadesca preserves various elements that have remained unchanged since the late 18th century. Figatell is a traditional culinary speciality of Beneixama.
