Culture and History
Castillo de Polop is of Islamic origin and was built at the beginning of the 12th century. Numerous sections of the walls of the double fortification ring have been preserved at Castillo de Polop; there are also remains of a cistern, a square wall tower and a series of rectangular rooms. A path leading from the town leads to Castillo de Polop. At Casa Museu Gabriel Miró, visitors can learn about Gabriel Miró's biography and discover how the landscape and streets of Polop influenced him. The building history of Iglesia Parroquial de San Pedro Apóstol dates back to 1723, and it has a rectangular floor plan with two side aisles. Santuario de la Divina Aurora adjoins Iglesia Parroquial de San Pedro Apóstol and has a rectangular structure with two horizontal building sections. Santuario de la Divina Aurora contains a carefully arranged tile ensemble dedicated to the Divina Aurora.
Landscape
Monte Ponoig west of Polop is a rugged, rocky mountain range with very steep slopes, extensive scree slopes, distinctive rocky outcrops and rock faces. These distinctive terrain features can be viewed as a separate scenic highlight alongside the historic buildings.
Routes and Via Ferrata
The Barranco de Xirles route is designated as a hiking route with a low level of difficulty. Vía Ferrata del Ponotx has reopened to the public and includes a vertical section, exposed passages and two 25- and 35-metre abseil sections. A complete, CE-certified via ferrata kit is required for Vía Ferrata del Ponotx; suitable abseiling equipment is also required for the two abseil sections. The hiking route and via ferrata are distinct activity formats; you can consider the designated level of difficulty, vertical route and equipment requirements separately in your planning. The differences here lie not only in the route designation, but also in the type of activity, route layout and required equipment.
Culinary Notes
Pilotes de dacsa are prepared with cornmeal, beans, meat and vegetables. Olleta de blat is a dish whose main ingredient is wheat. The two dishes can be clearly distinguished by their main ingredients. The two names represent two different ingredient profiles.
