The Ruta dels Molins connects the three most important paper mills in Banyeres de Mariola among the nine mills that operated along the Río Vinalopó between the 18th and 20th centuries. The route follows the Río Vinalopó through a landscape with rich flora and fauna that has remained largely unchanged.

Nature and Trails

Banyeres de Mariola is surrounded by mountains and forms part of the Parc Natural de la Serra de Mariola. Its landscape is characterised by aromatic herbs and the particular importance of water. PRCV-4 is an internationally approved short-distance hiking trail marked with parallel yellow and white stripes. The Via Verde de Las Virtudes runs through the municipality of Banyeres de Mariola between Bocairent and Beneixama. History

The Castillo de Banyeres de Mariola is a polygonal Almohad castle complex whose origins date back to the 12th and 13th centuries. The Torre del Homenaje in the Castillo houses the Museu Fester. Its exhibition panels explain the history of the Moros i Cristians festivals in Banyeres de Mariola and the events of the four-day celebrations. From the upper part of the Torre del Homenaje, visitors can see four provinces: Albacete, Murcia, Alicante and Valencia.

The Ermita de Santa María Magdalena is considered the oldest of the hermitages still standing in Banyeres de Mariola and is designed in the rural Gothic style. It is associated with masses, Correfocs and processions held in its honour in July. The Museu Arqueològic Torre Font Bona is housed in a 15th-century tower and displays archaeological remains dating from the Palaeolithic to the modern era.

By prior arrangement, the Museu Valencià del Paper offers paper workshops for families and schoolchildren, guided tours and interpretive excursions. The Museu de la Farmàcia displays historical pharmaceutical equipment and explains the functions of characteristic areas such as the sales counter, back room and chemical laboratory. The Museu de la Paraula de Banyeres de Mariola preserves existing cultural heritage, exhibits its collections and shares them with the public.

Festivals and Cuisine

The Moros i Cristians festival in honour of Sant Jordi takes place from 22 to 25 April and has been recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest since 1988. The festival includes informal night-time parades and, on 24 April, the symbolic capture of the castle by the Moors followed by its reconquest by the Christians, accompanied by ceremonial speeches.

Traditional dishes from Banyeres de Mariola include Olla de penques, borra, Gaspatxo and Pericana, as well as almond and anise pastries. Herbero is the characteristic traditional spirit of Banyeres de Mariola and is made from anise and aromatic herbs.
