Yecla combines wine, festival-oriented culture, regional cuisine and a landscape with prehistoric traces. Its different facets become visible in specific places, dishes and events – from Monte Arabí to the Ruta del Vino de Yecla.

Culture

The Fiestas patronales in honour of the Purísima Concepción de Yecla bear the official title “Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional”. The Festival de Jazz takes place in Yecla in September. More than 80 religious images take part in 11 processions during Semana Santa de Yecla.

The image of the Purísima Concepción, a work by the sculptor Miguel Torregrosa from 1941, is centrally located in the Santuario del Castillo. The Capilla del Santísimo Cristo del Sepulcro is also located there. The image of the town’s patron saint, Cristo Yacente, is venerated in an urn inside it.

The Museo Arqueológico Municipal “Cayetano de Mergelina” covers four historical periods in its presentation focused on Yecla. A large part of the artistic heritage of Semana Santa de Yecla can be seen throughout the year at the Museo de Semana Santa in the Iglesia Vieja. Cuisine and wine

Yecla’s gastronomic identity includes dishes such as gazpacho yeclano, gachasmigas and potato empanadas, as well as the sweet specialities Panes Benditos de San Blas and Libricos. The Empanada de Yecla occupies a place of its own: it is a traditional local food whose recipe and preparation have been passed down from generation to generation and which forms part of the local traditional, cultural and gastronomic heritage.

The Ruta del Vino de Yecla includes, among other things, visits to wineries, wine tastings and oenology courses. Alongside regional dishes, wine and the related activities are therefore also the focus as a separate area of interest.

Nature

Monte Arabí is a protected landscape in Yecla with unique rock formations, caves and prehistoric rock paintings. The Cerro del Puerto mountain is located in the wider regional surroundings of Yecla, as is La Capilla mountain.
