Puntas de Calnegre is a fishing village on the coast of the Region of Murcia. The settlement consists of a group of structures associated with traditional fishing activities along this coast. Its location connects the village with Calnegre y Cabo Cope Regional Park and Playa Puntas de Calnegre.

Nature and Coast

Puntas de Calnegre forms the northeastern boundary of Calnegre y Cabo Cope Regional Park. The regional park combines Mediterranean scrubland with beaches, cliffs, salt marshes, rambla valleys and fossil dunes. The regional park has been protected since 1992. The Calnegre area has been designated a Site of Community Importance since 2000 and is part of the Natura 2000 network.

Playa Puntas de Calnegre is a semi-urban beach, as it is located within the Calnegre settlement. The signposted access branches off from the RM-D21. The beach can be reached on foot, by car or by boat. Bathing conditions are rated as moderate. The beach has a picnic area, toilets, beach bars, foot-washing stations, walkways, first aid, lifeguards, a tourist information office, restaurants and a children's play area.

Culture and History

The Puntas de Calnegre settlement includes a former Guardia Civil barracks building, which has now been restored as a hostel, and a chapel. Together with the structures associated with traditional fishing activities, they form the visible historical and architectural elements of the settlement.

Hiking and Cycling

The Ruta de Senderismo Cuartel de Ciscar circular hiking route runs through Cabo Cope and Puntas de Calnegre Regional Park and starts at the Albergue Municipal de Puntas de Calnegre. It follows dirt and rocky paths along the coast, is approximately 12 kilometres long and has only minor changes in elevation.

Another route is called Senderismo en familia Playa de Percheles. It is 6.7 kilometres long and crosses Puntas de Calnegre in the direction of Mazarrón. For mountain biking, the Ruta MTB de Morata circular route passes through Puntas de Calnegre, Pastrana, Morata, Ugejar and Ramonete. The Ruta MTB de Morata partly follows the former railway line that led uphill towards Morata.

Cuisine

Arroz y pulpo is one of the typical dishes in this coastal area. It is usually served with chopped tomatoes from the region and a little olive oil.
