Sorzano begins with an unusual cultural attraction: the Belén Mecánico features 600 figures depicting traditional nativity scenes. The mechanical nativity can be visited year-round. The combination of a distinct world of figures and clearly regulated visiting arrangements means that a visit can be planned independently of any single festival date. Culture and History

The Iglesia de San Martín was built mainly in the 16th century. Its construction combines dressed stone, irregular rubble masonry and brick. It is one of the most significant cultural heritage features of the municipality of Sorzano.

This means the church can be viewed both in terms of its construction period and the visible combination of different masonry and building materials. A document from 1398 also confirms Sorzano's right to take part in a procession to the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de La Hermedaña.

Village Square and Trails

The Chopo de la plaza stands in Sorzano's village square. It is a black poplar (Populus nigra) estimated to be more than 130 years old.

The precise tree species and approximate age draw attention to two different characteristics of the same local landmark. Its location in the village square places this observation of nature directly within the village setting.

Traditions in May

The annual Doncellas procession in Sorzano takes place on the third Sunday in May. The participants wear white clothing and carry decorated holly branches.

The procession ends with an open-air mass in front of the Ermita. Festive activities then follow in the village, including traditional dances.
