Culture and History
Historic buildings include the Humilladero de Briñas, which was built on a rock in 1669 and houses a Christ figure from the mid-17th century. The Crucero de Briñas bears an inscription dating it to 1569. The Fuente de Briñas can be reached via a staircase with 20 steps; its vaulted structure may date from the 12th century.
The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is a church building constructed of ashlar masonry; construction began at the end of the 16th century and was completed in the 17th century. The main altarpiece of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is designed in the Classicist style and has three sections with five image bays. Around 1620, it was created by the architect Lope de Mendieta and the sculptor Hernando de Murillas. In the buildings, dating, material, inscription and arch shape serve as changing points of focus.
At the end of Calle San Marcelo lie the ruins of the Ermita de San Marcelo, the remains of a hermitage partially built into the rock. The structure of the Puente de Briñas essentially consists of seven arches in the form of pointed and round arches.
