Contrebia Leucade covers a 12-hectare urban site with 2,000 years of settlement. The Castillo de Aguilar del Río Alhama is a rock castle. It served to protect the town centre and control the route between the Meseta and the Ebro Valley; the foundations of the enclosing walls suggest an elongated, trapezoidal layout. The parish church of La Asunción has a star-ribbed vault. Its portal is designed in the Renaissance style.
