History

Mina El Carrascal is located 4 kilometres from Villadepera; it is a gallery of possible Roman origin that was mainly exploited in the 16th and 17th centuries. Visitors can walk through more than 200 metres of galleries and see part of an ore vein as well as the shaft that connected the different levels.

The Puente de Requejo, popularly known as Puente Pino, was an important engineering structure at the beginning of the 20th century and improved connections between Sayago and Aliste. The Paso de la Barca between Villadepera and Pino del Oro connected the Zamora regions of Aliste and Sayago. The Paso de la Barca operated from the Middle Ages until 1914.

Culture

The Museo Sacro is located in the former Ermita de San Roque. The museum houses implements and vestments that were used in religious rituals over the centuries. The Fuente Beber is of Roman origin. The Fuente de la Santa is a spring with iron-rich water believed to have healing properties.

Villadepera preserves an old communal alquitara. The old Lagar de las Escabadas and the Tejar de la Laguna have also been preserved. Traditions

The Ofertorio del Rosario takes place in Villadepera on the first Sunday in October. The annual Legua Pino-Villadepera athletics competition takes place on the first Saturday in October. Each event combines a fixed day in October with its own public occasion.
