The Iglesia de Santa María del Soto dates from the 13th century. It has a single nave and a main chapel.

The Iglesia Parroquial San Juan Bautista in Villanueva de Campeán is a 16th-century church combining Gothic and Renaissance elements. It contains an altarpiece by Ruiz de Zumeta. Four old arches on fluted columns with Ionic capitals divide the three naves.

The Convento de Nuestra Señora del Soto was founded in 1406 by Franciscans of the Third Order. In 1407, it was confirmed by Alfonso de Illescas, the Bishop of Zamora at the time. The convent is abandoned and in a state of ruin.

Several historical layers therefore meet in Villanueva de Campeán: the Church of Santa María del Soto is attributed to the 13th century, San Juan Bautista to the 16th century, while the foundation and confirmation of the convent date to 1406 and 1407.
