Coreses between Wetlands and Cultural History
Nature
The Lagunas de Coreses wetland complex is located within the municipality of Coreses. It consists of more than fifty former gravel pits. During the breeding season, migration and wintering periods, the lagoons host significant numbers of waterbirds and wetland birds. They are also suitable for observing dragonflies and damselflies. These seasonal periods and animal groups offer different opportunities for observing nature in the same wetland complex.
Culture and History
The present-day settlement of Coreses developed from settlements founded by Leonese monarchs after the conquest of territories under Muslim rule. In the first half of the 10th century, Coreses was resettled with Mozarabs from Coria; these Mozarabs brought from Coria gave Coreses its name.
The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dates from the 18th century, while the Palacio del Marqués de Villagodio dates from the 19th century. The Centro Cultural RAMÓN ÁLVAREZ has an exhibition area and rooms for Coreses' cultural programme.
The 15 Quintos of the most recent year group in Coreses prepared a race known as the “carrera de las cintas”. It was scheduled to take place on Carnival Saturday, 6 February.

When booking a holiday apartment in Coreses, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be considered separately. This allows you to define your personal accommodation framework while keeping the lagoons, historic buildings, cultural centre and the places mentioned in the surrounding area in view as separate reasons for travelling. Travel dates indicate the desired period, the room category describes the intended layout, and the cancellation conditions make different terms comparable. In this way, the accommodation details stand alongside the various highlights of the locality, without reducing nature observation, cultural history, events and places in the surrounding area to a single travel purpose.

A regular daily bus service connects Coreses with the provincial capital; there is also a taxi service.
