Ricobayo between the Esla Reservoir and granite landscape

The Ricobayo Reservoir, the Ricobayo Power Station and the Ricobayo Dam lie on the Esla River—also known as Salto de Ricobayo or Embalse del Esla—less than 1 kilometre from Ricobayo de Alba in the province of Zamora. Water and landscape

The granite berrocal of Ricobayo-Muelas del Pan is a striking example of a landscape shaped by igneous rocks in western Zamora. Its special character lies in its impressive forms and the good conditions for observing them.

Culture

The present-day Santa Eulalia Church in Ricobayo is a simple, small building. The parish church of Ricobayo is dedicated to Saint Eulalia.

The main chapel of Santa Eulalia Church in Ricobayo was completely rebuilt in the mid-18th century; its altarpiece also dates from that century.

Next to the parish church of Ricobayo stands the Altar del Castillón, a prehistoric altar made from a rock weighing more than ten tonnes. Two steps are carved into its upper surface, leading to a circular depression.
