Nature and Trails

Cerdillo lies at an altitude of approximately 1,100 metres above sea level in the granite landscape of La Cabrera and preserves its traditional architecture. The Cerdillo–Colmenar, Cerdillo–Molino Botero, Cerdillo–San Ciprián and Cerdillo–Murias–Vigo de Sanabria hiking trails run through the Parque natural Lago de Sanabria y sierras Segundera y de Porto.

The trail from Cerdillo to the beehive is 4.5 kilometres long when measured as a round trip. It is a linear route along an open, straightforward path that begins in Cerdillo. The trail leads through oak forests to information boards about the flora, fauna and traditional life of the Sanabria region. The trail is suitable for children. Rocky or grass-covered sections may become slippery after rain. Different trail lengths, route types and surfaces provide objective points of comparison for personal day planning.

The trail information can be organised for personal day planning according to three objective characteristics: named route, route type and surface. Thus, the four routes in the nature park stand alongside the described trail to the beehive; for the latter, the distance, open route and possible slipperiness after rain are presented as separate pieces of information. The information boards and forests expand the trail description to include natural and regional topics. These topics offer different perspectives: the landscape and trails represent the spatial aspect, the architectural forms and milling tradition the historical aspect, while the festival details establish a connection with time.

Culture and History

The Colmenar de Faldriego has a circular layout, high walls and a projecting overhang. These architectural elements served to protect it from bears.

The Senda del Colmenar de Cerdillo forms part of the "Hombres y bosques" circuit. The Cerdillo–Molino Botero hiking route is also part of the trail network in the nature park; the Molino Botero mill is in good condition.

Festivals

Cerdillo's patron saint festivals repeatedly include the Kedada Trail Cerdirock, organised by the Asociación Cultural CERDIROCK. The route of this Kedada Trail Cerdirock passed through Cerdillo's mountain landscapes and historic streets and covered a distance of 10 kilometres.

In Cerdillo, the Concejo was reactivated once again to assess the festivals held around 15 August.

Getting There

The route is via exit 79 of the A-52, along the ZA-104 to El Puente and then the ZA-114 to Trefacio and Cerdillo.
