Discover Viñas: Mushroom Foraging, Festivals and Alistanian Culture

Viñas de Aliste is included in the Parque Micológico PMZA-50.001 Montes del Noroeste Zamorano, where mushroom foraging is possible with a Micocyl permit; Ribas, San Blas and Vega de Nuez are also listed there. The traditional Fiestas de San Esteban take place from 23 to 27 December.

Nature

A single Micocyl permit applies to mushroom foraging in the Parque Micológico Montes del Noroeste Zamorano and its expanded area. The Micocyl app shows the user's location on a map and warns when users enter or leave a regulated mushroom-foraging area. This means that two different types of information are available side by side for orientation while foraging: the permit concerns the regulated activity, while the app shows the location and the crossing at the area boundary.

Activities and Festivals

For October 2026, the Rincón de Aliste Trail is scheduled to take place in Viñas de Aliste as part of the Zamora Trail Series. The provincial circuit of this series is open to both licensed and unlicensed runners. Threshing is one of the Alistanian activities associated with Viñas. The events calendar therefore includes an autumn date alongside a multi-day festive period in December.

The Fiestas de San Esteban in Viñas de Aliste include a tortilla de patata competition. In Viñas de Aliste, there is also a documented tradition of lighting fires in honour of the souls.

Culture

Viñas de Aliste is one of the places with a church and parish dedicated to San Esteban. The parish church of San Esteban stands in the upper part of Viñas, and its high altar has fluted columns. The Ermita de la Inmaculada is located in the town centre.

The townscape of Viñas preserves examples of traditional Alistanian architecture. The traditional houses are built of stone, wood and adobe. Local dances such as “El galandún” have been passed down in Viñas, along with the song “Señor galandún galandún, galandaina”. Those wishing to organise their cultural impressions will find different points of reference: the parish church and the Ermita point to sacred places, the houses to construction methods, and the dance to living tradition.

A resident originally from Viñas who emigrated to America supported the construction of the so-called Cruz del Campo in 1966; it marks the arrival in Viñas.

History

The surviving Castro Llombo Latedo forms part of the area's historic settlement heritage around Viñas. The surviving Castro Castrico de La Verea is also part of this heritage.
