Zamarramala is part of the Camino de Santiago de Madrid. Every year, the festival of Santa María Magdalena takes place here on 22 July and includes a procession in honour of the saint. Culture

Santa Águeda in Zamarramala has been declared a festival of national tourist interest. It takes place on the weekend after 5 February; on this day, the women of Zamarramala traditionally govern the town. The tradition includes tajada de chorizo, a portion of chorizo cooked in wine.

Around 13 June, a San Antonio procession takes place in Zamarramala, featuring an arch made of fruit and sweets. The Santo Entierro procession runs from the Barrio de Zamarramala to the Iglesia de la Vera Cruz and is accompanied by the Knights of the Order of Malta. History

The Iglesia de Santa María Magdalena preserves 15th-century wall paintings depicting the Annunciation and the Adoration of the Magi. The church also houses a Lignum Crucis, a relic of the Cross of Christ. At the Ermita de San Roque, a commemorative plaque recalls Robert Gillon and reproduces his words of praise for the view.

Pilgrim Routes

The Camino de San Frutos passes through Zamarramala along both its original route and an alternative route. The alternative route includes a 58.2 km section that does not coincide with the main route. The two variants can be compared as different route options.

The Fuente del Pájaro pilgrim hostel in Zamarramala is open exclusively to people walking the Camino de Santiago or the Camino de San Frutos. An official pilgrim passport is required for overnight stays.

Nature

The Barranco del arroyo de la Pellejera is an archaeological site with two rows of stones leading down from an elevated platform towards the stream. Beside the path, there is an engraved cross on a triangular base with sides measuring 40 cm. Zamarramala offers unique views of Segovia.

Traditions
