Nature

At the foot of the reservoir, a path begins a short walk of just under 1 kilometre to Altozano del Pradillo. The route descends to the banks of the Río Moros and crosses the river in the El Soto area. In the El Soto area, the landscape becomes increasingly dominated by pine trees. Silica sands from the Tierra de Pinares cover a large part of the municipality of Juarros de Riomoros. Near the Río Moros, several centuries-old willow and ash trees can be seen. From Altozano del Pradillo in Juarros de Riomoros, the El Río Moros–Valle de los Fresnos route offers views of the valley, the Campiña and the Sierra.

For your own daily planning, you can weigh the route length, connection with the river, woodland character and views separately. The various features can be compared with one another without making a blanket assessment of a route.

Culture

The parish church of Virgen del Pollo stands at the highest point of Juarros de Riomoros. The Virgen del Pollo patron saint festival takes place on the third weekend of August, with a mass, a procession and numerous entertaining and festive events.

The church of San Pedro Apóstol is an 18th-century Baroque building with a single-nave floor plan and a bell gable with two openings for bells. Inside, depictions of San Pedro, the Virgen del Rosario and the Virgen del Pollo can be seen. The festival in honour of San Pedro takes place on 29 June with a Eucharistic celebration, a procession and the traditional refreshments, accompanied by dulzaina and tamboril.

Next to the river, at the site of the original settlement, are the remains of the Ermita de la Inmaculada. The church at the site of Santa María del Poyo preserved its namesake image until relatively recently; today, this image can be seen in the parish church of Juarros de Riomoros.
