Aldeasoña – Valley Trails, Mills and Village Culture

The approximately 6 km-long Ruta del Valle de la Hoz runs from Aldeasoña to Membibre de la Hoz along the Arroyo de la Hoz through the valley, passing steep slopes, interesting rock formations and caves, and ends in Aldeasoña.

Nature

Another route, the Ruta del Molino de la Hoz, leads from Bar El Parque along an unsigned, linear 1 km route beside the Arroyo de la Hoz to a privately owned mill. The surroundings of Aldeasoña include the banks of the Arroyo de la Hoz. On the riverbank there is a recreational area with sports fields, tables and an area suitable for swimming. The Ruta de Los Lavaderos (mountain biking) passes through Aldeasoña and is 39 km long. The different route lengths and activity types can be weighed up side by side for your personal planning. For planning your own day, these options can be considered side by side according to route format, length and activity type, without having to equate them and while combining them with different daily itineraries.

Culture

At the Lavadero of Aldeasoña on the road to Peñafiel, the washboards have been preserved; the Fuente de los 4 Caños is located directly next to it. Another natural spring in Aldeasoña is the Fuente del Piojo on the road to Membibre de la Hoz near Calle Alta. The Iglesia de Santa María Magdalena contains a Romanesque baptismal font with a diameter of 124 cm. The Viacrucis of Aldeasoña is located on Calle Alta, near a natural spring.

On the road to Peñafiel, the water inlet is still visible. Another mill site is located on the road to Laguna de Contreras, on a path branching off to the right towards Vivar de Fuentidueña, and is privately owned. Most of the mills in Aldeasoña have disappeared or are privately owned; one of them stands next to the washing places.

Traditional houses in Aldeasoña have a wine cellar in the lower part of the building or a cellar dug into a slope outside the house; this reflects the importance of viticulture in the area. The residents of Aldeasoña and Membibre de la Hoz renew the Ruta del Valle de la Hoz every year and have a picnic in the other village each time. The Fiestas in honour of Santa María Magdalena in Aldeasoña are dated 22 July.
