Discover Brieva: Culture at the Foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama

Brieva lies at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama at an altitude of 1,091 metres, between the Pirón River and the Polendos stream. The town centre preserves a consistent traditional appearance: the residential buildings are predominantly made of stone and decorated with Segovian sgraffito. Culture

The parish church of Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol has a semicircular Romanesque apse; its high altar is a Baroque altarpiece with a niche structure. The church also contains a processional cross made in the 17th century by the Segovian silversmith Sebastián de Paredes. A stone cross dating from 1725 stands in the Plaza Mayor.

The Museo de La Fragua presents traditional ways of life in the municipality of Brieva, as well as the work of the traditional blacksmith. It contains almost 200 objects from the fields of blacksmithing, agriculture and livestock farming. The cultural sites and objects therefore represent different aspects: sacred architecture and silversmithing, village life, blacksmithing, agriculture and livestock farming, as well as metal figures.

The Potro de Herrar is a granite structure used to restrain mules or horses while they were being shod. On the outskirts of Brieva, the Ermita de las Cinco Llagas was restored and incorporated into the municipal cemetery. The artisan Mouloud makes figures from brass and other metals. Architecture, everyday culture and crafts can thus be interpreted separately or together.

Festivals and Events

On 13 December, Brieva celebrates the Fiesta de La Traslación. It is associated with the passage of the apostle James's mortal remains on their way to Santiago de Compostela. This date adds a fixed element of the local festival calendar to the impressions associated with the town.

The Festival Poético del Panduro features poetry recitations with or without music, performances and children's events over a weekend in August or September. For 2026, the tenth edition of the Panduro poetry festival was announced for 7 and 8 August in Brieva's Plaza Mayor.
