Culture and History

The parish church of Cedillo de la Torre was recognized as a monument with the status of Bien de Interés Cultural. The building dates from the 18th century and preserves some elements of Romanesque origin. The main altarpiece of the parish church of La Asunción de Nuestra Señora is a Baroque work from 1738 by an unknown artist. The parish church also houses an ethnographic museum displaying tools and work equipment from traditional ways of life. The museum is housed in a former barn and preserves two Romanesque capitals from the earlier building. Its archaeological evidence from the surrounding area includes Celtiberian and Roman pottery, as well as pieces recovered from the former church. The Ermita de San Juan is believed to have been of Visigothic origin.

The local culinary tradition includes the still-practised Matanza. Pork products from the various stages of the ritual and sausages eaten later are part of this tradition.

Festivals and Local Traditions

In Cedillo de la Torre, Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is celebrated on 15 August, San Roque on 16 August and the Virgen del Carmen on 16 July. San Isidro Labrador is also celebrated in the comarca on 15 May, and Santa Águeda on 5 February. During the Voto de Hornuez on the first Sunday in June, there is a communal walk to the chapel with the village of Maderuelo. A Trinquete, or Frontón, for playing pelota has also been preserved; it may be the oldest surviving court of its kind in the comarca.

Cycling Route and Nature Observation
