Culture

The Iglesia Parroquial de San Miguel has Romanesque origins. The Dolmen de El Mesón in Porqueriza, within the municipality of La Mata de Ledesma, has an almost complete burial mound; several stone slabs from the chamber and corridor protrude from it.

The Dolmen de El Gejo de Diego Gómez in La Mata de Ledesma has a small, well-preserved burial mound with a central depression corresponding to the chamber.

The medieval Puente de los Diablos, also known as Puente de las Brujas, is located in Porqueriza, within the municipality of La Mata de Ledesma, and crosses a dry riverbed. It forms part of the tourist route network of the Comarca de Ledesma.

The cultural heritage of La Mata de Ledesma offers various ways of engaging with its history and townscape. Rock art, dolmens, religious architecture and the bridge can stand alongside one another as separate themes. This makes it possible to focus on the forms of the monuments, their connections with the local area or the links between several cultural themes, without prescribing a fixed order.

History

The tumulus field of La Mata de Ledesma stands out for the large number of structures identified as megalithic monuments that do not conform to standardised patterns of megalithism.

In Porqueriza, the former Santa Marta church is in a severely dilapidated state. Significant damage is visible beneath the damaged roof, which now serves as the floor.

The patron saint festivities of La Mata de Ledesma are dedicated to San Miguel Arcángel and the Virgen de la Asunción and take place on 13, 14 and 15 August; 15 August is the main day, with a solemn Mass.

Different points of reference for placing events in time coexist in La Mata de Ledesma: the tumulus field, the former church and the set date of the patron saint festivities. Comparing these topics makes it possible to consider the historical remains and the August date separately, without confusing their respective focuses.
