Culture

Its entrance consists of a simple Romanesque pointed-arch portal with an archivolt and hood moulding. The stone bridge is made of dressed ashlar; its first historical mentions date from the 17th century. At 78 metres long, it features barrel vaults, openings and two cutwaters. The Casa del Cura is an 18th-century hidalgo house. Several fortified towers can still be seen in the village, and various hidalgo houses line the streets.

History

During the Industrial Revolution, Quintanilla de las Torres was an important railway junction. The Palencia–Santander line connected there with a branch line to the nearby mining town of Barruelo. This branch line was used to transport coal from the mines. A former sanatorium now serves as the railway station of Quintanilla de las Torres. The village lies in the Las Loras Geopark and provides access to the Cantabrian Valle de Valderredible.
