Brañosera lies on the left bank of the Río Rubagón, surrounded by oak and beech forests, in the Parque Natural Montaña Palentina.
On an offer page for a holiday apartment in Brañosera, you can compare travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions side by side. Depending on your preferred stay, these fields can be weighted differently; choosing a location based on nature, trails, winter activities and architectural heritage remains a separate decision.
Hiking
The Senda de la Pedrosa connects Barruelo de Santullán and Brañosera. The route through the Bosque de La Pedrosa follows the course of the Río Rubagón through meadows and forests with waterfalls and dense riverside vegetation. The GR 1 reaches Brañosera at the site of the San Miguel Chapel. The second GR-1 stage begins outside Brañosera at the Ermita de San Roque and leads downhill through dense, shady forest.
When planning personally, you can distinguish the trails by connections, route and stage point.
Winter and Cycling
On the northern side of Valdecebollas in Brañosera, there is terrain for ice climbing with frozen waterfalls. Brañosera is listed as an area for ski touring in Castilla y León. The cycling ascent to Golobar from Brañosera covers 13.8 kilometres and 760 metres of elevation gain. Horse-riding excursions in Brañosera usually last 1.5 or 2 hours.
The activities also offer different points of comparison: duration, distance and elevation gain are defined with varying degrees of specificity.
History and Architectural Heritage
The Ermita de San Miguel was the original parish church of “Brannia Osaria”. A consecration inscription confirms the original Romanesque construction of the Ermita de San Miguel in 1118.
Brañosera preserves traditional mountain houses made of stone and oak wood. The streets of Brañosera also retain small medieval arches, most of them bricked up.
In 824, Munio Núñez granted his subjects the Carta Puebla. This gave rise to the Fuero de Brañosera, making Brañosera the first Ayuntamiento in Spain.
The church of Santa Eulalia in Brañosera was built from locally quarried reddish sandstone known as “piedra brañosera”. It preserves a Romanesque portal supported by a protective roof resting on seven decorated corbels.
In Valdecebollas, el Cuero and Prado Callado, areas can still be seen where local residents worked stone; some pieces damaged and abandoned during production also lie there.
For choosing your own focus, local history, religious buildings, house forms and traces of stoneworking can be considered as different themes.
Other places: Pino del Río, Villorquite del Páramo, Villoldo, Villanueva De Arriba, Cervera De Pisuerga, Barruelo de Santullán, Villalcázar De La Sirga, Santa María De Redondo
