Santa María de Redondo is located in Montaña Palentina Nature Park. Nature, trails and local history can be explored here at different paces. A visit brings landscape features and historical traces together, without reducing the village to a single theme.
Nature
The Senda de Fuente Cobre begins at a car park on the outskirts of Santa María de Redondo. It leads through the Valle de Redondos and ecologically valuable deciduous forests of beech and oak. The easy route to Ribero Pintado is approximately 3 km from Santa María de Redondo and begins at the Senda de Fuente Cobre car park.
At Ribero Pintado, layers of sandstone and slate alternate. The red hues are caused by iron oxidation, while the black ones result from the slate’s high organic content. For observation, the type of rock and the cause of its colour can be considered separately.
Trails
The route to Cueva del Cobre is a 13.5 km hiking trail with uphill sections and takes between 3 and 5 hours, depending on walking speed and physical condition.
The different trail lengths and time frames can be weighed against one another when you organise nature trails by distance and time required. Nature and cultural topics can also be assessed independently; the routes and local history each place emphasis on different aspects.
When comparing a holiday apartment in Santa María De Redondo, you can review the travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions side by side on the respective offer pages. The three details can be ordered according to your personal priorities; this keeps your own planning focused on the specific information for the selected offer. The trail and cultural topics can be considered separately from the information about the respective offer: nature experiences, local history and personal circumstances can each form their own focus, without any single detail determining all other considerations.

Culture and History
The Church of the Assumption of Mary has a 17th-century Solomonic altarpiece. It depicts Saint Blaise, Saint John the Evangelist, Saint Peter and Christ crucified. The parish church’s bell gable bears two coats of arms of different sizes belonging to the Velasco family.
Several houses bearing coats of arms can be seen along the streets of Santa María de Redondo. Below the Peñas del Moro lies the 14th-century Virgen de Viarce Monastery; only a few remains of it have survived.
“La Mojonera” recalls a historic dispute from 1575 over the use of water and grazing land.
The tradition “La Mojonera de Brañosera y el Valle de los Redondos (San Juan de Redondo and Santa María de Redondo)” has been recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of special interest; it takes place every nine years.
