The historic town centre of Dueñas was declared a historic-artistic ensemble by Decree 1547/1967 of 6 July 1967. Culture and waterside paths can be considered as different themes in Dueñas, without one having to replace the other.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Dueñas, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be considered separately on the respective offer pages. This information forms part of personal planning; at the same time, historical sightseeing, waterside paths and a wine cellar visit available by prior arrangement can be classified as different focal points alongside one another.

You can also consider Ribas de Campos, Prádanos de Ojeda, Monzón De Campos, Cantoral De La Peña, Ampudia, Villoldo, Valberzoso and Paredes De Nava as additional options.

Culture

The Abadía de San Isidro de Dueñas features a Romanesque façade and a Herrerian monastery building that was completely rebuilt in the 17th century. Its origins are said to date back to the 9th century. The different architectural forms and dates can be read as separate historical layers.

Different points of reference are available for cultural choices in Dueñas: the ensemble offers a view of the town centre, the Abadía focuses on monastery architecture, San Agustín on preserved building elements, and the Hospital on a single Renaissance work of art.

Parts of the arcades of the former cloister, popularly known as the “Patio de Arcos”, remain from the Church and Monastery of San Agustín. The church and monastery are considered a medieval site where Fray Luis de León delivered one of his famous speeches. The architectural fragment and historical classification create distinct points of emphasis within the cultural theme.

The Hospital de Santiago contains a 16th-century Plateresque altarpiece depicting the Annunciation. Of the former institutional complex of the Hospital de Santiago, only the old church remains; it is considered the sole surviving remnant of the complex. When viewing it, you can classify the individual work of art and the remaining part of the former complex separately.

Nature and Paths

Within the municipality of Dueñas, the southern branch of the Canal de Castilla passes through the two locks numbered 37 and 38. The Canal de Castilla in Dueñas can be explored along the towpaths. For your own day planning, this places a specific structure and a type of path alongside one another as different approaches to the canal theme.

Stage 9 of the southern branch of the Canal de Castilla, from Dueñas to Valladolid, is the final stage of the canal and is considered the one most heavily used by cyclists and hikers. Here, cycling and hiking can be viewed alongside one another as two different activity focuses.

Culinary Experiences

When planning personally, the wine aspect can be considered as a separate focus alongside culture and paths. Bodega Remigio de Salas Jalón offers visits to its underground wine cellar by prior arrangement.
