Busto de Bureba: Views, Churches and Patron Saint Festivities

Busto de Bureba combines an unusual architectural history with striking viewpoints and traditional festivities. The Church of San Martín has a very old fortified tower that still characterizes the townscape today.

History and Culture

The Mozarabic Hermitage of San Baudelio was located outside Busto de Bureba. A capital from the former hermitage is kept in the Museum of Burgos. The present tower of the Church of San Martín was built using the remains of an earlier castle; only the walls of this former complex have survived. The town is also home to the Palacio Monument (Ruins), which has been preserved as a ruin.

A 60-meter-long and 2.5-meter-wide path with a gradient of 13 % leads to the Mirador del Portillo de Busto. The viewpoint is located in the Montes Obarenes-San Zadornil Nature Park. At an altitude of 1,000 meters, it lies next to kilometer 16.8 of the BU-504 road. Busto de Bureba is also part of this nature park's area. The path dimensions, elevation and road reference provide specific points of reference for locating the viewpoint within the landscape.

Busto de Bureba's traditional patron saint celebrations include a procession in honor of the local patron saint, the Virgen de Mediavilla. The traditional San Silvestre race in Busto de Bureba took place on December 31 through the town's streets and reached its 17th edition.
