Arroyal lies in the floodplain of the stream that gives the town its name, north of Quintanadueñas. At the edge of the San Antón plateau, above the Ubierna River in the Alfoz de Quintanadueñas, lies the Arroyal I dolmen.

Culture

Next to Arroyal’s central square stands the Ermita de San Antonio Abad, aligned with Calle San Antonio. The Church of San Cristóbal features a Neoclassical high altar by Ruiz de Zubiate dating from 1591. The Church of San Cristóbal de Arroyal also houses a Gothic Calvary ensemble from the 14th century.

The traditional San Antón festival in Arroyal takes place every year on 17 January; animals are blessed, “candelorios” are lit and three circuits around the chapel are made.

The Arroyal–Marmellar de Arriba circular hike begins in Arroyal, heads towards the Ermita de San Antonio Abad and then climbs to the plateau. The Vuelta circular por los manantiales circular hike starts in Arroyal and passes through the valley, going by the springs.

The Arroyal de Vivar–Villanueva de Río Ubierna circular route starts in Arroyal, passes through Villanueva de Río Ubierna and returns from the plateau to the starting point. The “Quintanadueñas desde Arroyal por el río” route partly follows a grassy path along the riverbank.

The four hiking routes differ in their course: their focus is either the climb to the plateau, the valley with its springs, the connection via Villanueva de Río Ubierna or the grassy section along the riverbank. This keeps the landscape and trail characteristics clearly distinct from one another.
