Mingorría: Mill Trails, Granite and Church Art

The Mill Route begins in Mingorría and leads in short sections to mills on the Adaja and Voltoya rivers. It provides historical information about the operation of the mills and the traditional craft of milling.

Paths by the Water

On the route along the Río Adaja, you can see granite boulders surrounded by holm oaks and pine forests, as well as numerous mills on the riverbanks. You can cover the section from Mingorría to the river by car or bicycle; afterwards, follow the course of the river on foot.

Short sections of trail, several modes of transport and different themes can be compared when planning your own day.

Stone and Landscape

The Stonecutters’ Route passes through former quarries and presents stoneworking as a characteristic craft of the residents of Mingorría and Cardeñosa.

Canto del Bohoyo is a grey granite rock formation shaped by former open-pit quarries and distinctive forms. Piedra Caballera is a grey granite rock formation associated with former open-pit quarries and characteristic forms of the area.

Archaeology

At the Gravera de Puente Viejo archaeological site on the right bank of the Adaja River, remains from the Bronze Age were found, along with earth pits possibly used to store agricultural produce. The site also contains findings assigned to the earliest regional phase of Cogotas I, known as the Protocogotas phase.

Churches and Artwork

The Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol was built at the end of the 16th century on the remains of an earlier church. The church contains important altarpieces, paintings and sculptures from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as a Baroque pipe organ in the gallery.

In Zorita de los Molinos, the Iglesia de San Miguel was built between the 16th and 17th centuries. Behind the main chapel is a Late Gothic tempera wall painting depicting Saint Michael.

Industrial History

The former Marugan factory operated for more than 150 years before ceasing production in 1970. The former Marugan chocolate factory preserves its original equipment and the delivery van purchased in 1934.
