Peguerinos reveals its special features where trails, viewpoints and historic traces come together. The trails in Peguerinos are recommended for hiking and mountain biking. The Ruta de la Naranjera offers views over the Sierra de Guadarrama and, on clear days, of Madrid’s highest towers. The Ruta de Cabeza Lijar includes a viewpoint and the summit where Ávila, Segovia and Madrid meet. The Cueva Valiente route leads to a summit whose elevation is given as 1,903 m. The different routes each have their own focus: viewpoint, meeting point and summit elevation are different reference points for personal planning.
Nature and Trails
The Área de La Nava recreational area is also part of the local orientation. It has a picnic area with tables, benches and a rustic stone fountain. Alongside the trails mentioned above, this means that specific elements of an outdoor stay are also part of the local landscape.
Geographical Location
From Peguerinos, trails cross the Puerto de Avantos to El Escorial and lead to the Puerto de Los Leones. The trails from Peguerinos also offer views of the Valle de los Caídos and across the entire comarca as far as Madrid. For your planning, the routes and trails can therefore be distinguished by landscape views, viewpoints and regional connections.
Culture and History
The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción is an outstanding landmark of Peguerinos. Another historic trace leads to the Fuente de las Negras archaeological site, which is connected with the monastery complex of El Escorial. A total of 610 granite blocks were documented at this site; they were intended for hydraulic infrastructure connecting Peguerinos to the El Escorial complex. The remains of a water-distribution system also appear to be present at Fuente de las Negras, intended to collect water from the Arroyo Navalacuerda stream.
Places to visit in Peguerinos include trenches from the Spanish Civil War. According to the local tourism description, most of the war ruins in Peguerinos are largely very well preserved. Former shepherds’ shelters are also among the local places to visit. During Peguerinos’ summer patron-saint festivities, a medieval market described as traditional took place on 10 and 11 August 2024.
