El Barraco forms the 20th and 21st stages of the Camino de Santiago del Sureste, also known as the Camino de Alicante a Santiago.

Pilgrimages and Customs

Every year on Las Candelas, the local Quintos sing songs for the Virgen de la Piedad. Stone crosses mark the Good Friday procession of the Via Crucis in El Barraco, during which the town’s patron saint is carried to Tres Cruces mountain.

The pilgrimage to San Marcos Evangelista takes place on the Sunday after 25 April. During it, the saint is taken from the parish church to the Ermita de San Marcos, two kilometres away, where a mass is celebrated in his honour. Every year, on the Sunday after 10 July, a pilgrimage takes place in honour of San Cristóbal, the patron saint of motorists.

Culture

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de El Barraco was built at the beginning of the 16th century. The bell tower of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de El Barraco offers panoramic views of the town. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Piedad is built of dressed stone and has a single rectangular nave.

The Puente de Visillo is a single-arch bridge in the Romanesque style, built in the first half of the 17th century to cross the Gaznata River. The Plaza de Toros de El Barraco was inaugurated on 15 September 1930 on the occasion of the Fiestas in honour of the Santísimo Cristo de Gracia.

Events are held at the Mirador Astronómico of El Barraco and at the Museo de la Naturaleza. The Museo De La Naturaleza Valle Del Alberche, a museum, is located in the immediate vicinity of Barraco. The Museo de la naturaleza Valle del Alberche accepts reservations for interpretive routes for groups of ten or more people.
