Discover Muñogalindo in the Valle Amblés
Muñogalindo lies at the heart of the Valle Amblés, between the gentle slopes of the Sierra de Ávila, with its dehesas and holm oak groves, and the flat valley plain. In this setting, open landscapes, cultural sites and regional destinations come together within a compact thematic area.
Culture
The Colección Amblés, a gallery of modern art, is located on the ground floor of Muñogalindo Town Hall. The first exhibition in this collection brought together 17 artists from Ávila with Agustín Ibarrola.
The Ecomuseo Valle Amblés is housed in the former doctor’s residence. As part of the visitor interpretation, representative animal species of the Valle Amblés are presented there. A touchscreen also provides detailed descriptions of 18 routes through the Valle Amblés. Art, local history, wildlife and trails therefore appear in different places and in different forms.
Nature and landscape
Castillo de Manqueospese, a castle, is located in the area around Muñogalindo. The ruins of Castro Vetón de Ulaca and Castro De La Mesa De Miranda, an ancient site, are also located in the area around Muñogalindo. These destinations represent different historical traces: a castle, the ruins of a pre-Roman settlement and an ancient site.
The area around Muñogalindo also includes Peña Negrilla, a peak, and Risco del Sol, a peak. Alto de las Fuentes, a mountain, and Cabeza Redonda, a peak, are likewise located in the area around Muñogalindo. The landscape can therefore be understood through several named elevations and viewpoints, rather than being reduced to a single type of terrain.
Las Piedras de Garoza combines the art of Agustín Ibarrola with the ever-present granite and holm oaks of the dehesa. At Las Piedras de Garoza, visitors can move between different viewpoints and observe the relationships between the stones, the trees, the sky and the changing light. Here, the artwork, granite and dehesa form a shared landscape context.
Trails
The fourth stage of the Ruta Teresiana El Confesor runs for 22 km from Mengamuñoz to Muñogalindo. The touchscreen at the Ecomuseo Valle Amblés also provides access to 18 detailed routes through the Valle Amblés. The 22-km stage and the wider selection of routes are therefore identifiable as two separate reference points in the presentation of the trails.
Regional setting
Muñogalindo is located on the N-110 road, 18 km from Ávila. In the wider regional surroundings of Muñogalindo, there is also Museo del Prado, a museum. The location on the N-110, the distance to Ávila and the broader regional surroundings represent different spatial scales for orientation.
