Culture
Martínez is home to the Iglesia de Santo Tomás Apóstol, which can be dated to the 16th century. You can use this dating as a specific starting point for looking at the history of the town.
The building has a single-nave layout and a flat-ended chancel. Both areas are covered with wooden beam structures. The spatial division and the wooden construction give the church building clearly distinguishable architectural features.
Inside the Iglesia de Santo Tomás Apóstol, there is an 18th-century altarpiece. It was created by the woodcarver Manuel Pérez from Peñaranda. This gives you two closely connected perspectives for observation: the spatial division of the building and the detailed examination of individual craftsmanship elements.
History
Martínez belonged to the chapter of Serrezuela, one of the areas into which the Diocese of Ávila was divided for the collection of the tithe. The place name is therefore situated within a clearly defined ecclesiastical administrative context.
Martínez always remained a place in royal possession and was subject to the jurisdiction of the Council of Ávila. This historical connection adds a second institutional level to the classification through the diocese.
A variant of the stanza is sung during processions of supplication to the Virgen de la Estrella, the patron saint of Martínez. The local holidays established for Martínez in 2026 fall on 15 and 16 October and are known as Santa Teresa.
Those who read the historical references step by step can distinguish architectural, institutional and festive connections from one another without combining them into a single narrative.
Landscape
The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Estrella is located in an area of the Dehesa de Montalvo landscape. The Dehesa de Montalvo itself lies within the municipality of Martínez.
The abandoned settlement of San Simones is also located within the municipality of Martínez. The geographical classification therefore works with different levels: the landscape area, municipality and abandoned settlement can be considered separately.
Geographical Location
Martínez is located near the C510 road, which connects Piedrahíta with Peñaranda de Bracamonte.
Martínez is located in the Valle Tormes y Corneja Gredos Norte tourism area. In this area, the GR-10 long-distance hiking trail can be hiked in full or in part. When planning your route, you can consider the two options separately.
When comparing holiday apartments in Martínez, you can place the travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions side by side on the respective offer pages. This allows you to check the specific terms of an offer separately from the local attractions that interest you for your trip.
