Nature

Navarredonda de Gredos lies in the upper reaches of the Tormes and is considered the heart of Gredos; Gredos was declared a regional park in 1996. The Pinar de Navarredonda is a mature forest of Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris); some trees are more than a century old.

The isolated Pinar provides numerous and diverse bird species with nesting and feeding grounds; these species could not survive outside this forest. Piedra Aguda is a point at an altitude of 1,816 metres, from which the surrounding landscape can be experienced.

Trails

Ruta 1 Piedra Aguda connects the two districts of Barajas and Navarredonda de Gredos in the north of the municipality. It is considered an easy, accessible route and offers impressive views of the sierra.

Ruta 2 Cabeza Castaño is an easy, highly accessible circular hike through extensive pastureland in the vicinity of Navarredonda de Gredos; its views extend to the south and north. At an altitude of 1,672 metres, Cabeza Castaño is the route’s main point of interest.

Ruta 3 Nacimiento del Río Tormes runs parallel to the AV 941 road towards Parador Nacional de Gredos. It then turns onto a well-signposted path southwards to Fuente del Tormes; the entire route can be covered by vehicle.

Ruta 4 Valdeascas y Piedra del mediodía passes the Molino de Tío Frutos, also known as Molino de Mingorriano. Ruta 5 Las Chorreras connects Navarredonda de Gredos and Barajas in the south of the municipality.

Ruta 6 Pinar y Parador is an almost level and easy-to-manage route. It allows visitors to experience the extensive Pinar de Navarredonda and the surroundings of the emblematic Parador Nacional de Gredos.

Culture

The Parador de Gredos was opened by Alfonso XIII in 1928 and was the first Parador de Turismo in Spain. In March 1978, seven young politicians met there in the Salón del Silencio, now the Salón de los Ponentes, to lay the foundations of the later Spanish Constitution.

The Iglesia de Ntra. Sra. de la Asunción is a late Gothic church built of dressed stone blocks, with three naves. It contains polychrome carvings, altarpieces from the 17th and 18th centuries, and numerous paintings.

Navarredonda and Barajas have been documented since the late 14th century.

Restaurants in Navarredonda serve, among other dishes, beef steak, judías del barco beans, trout from the Tormes, Iberian cured meats, migas, Castilian soup and patatas revolconas.
