Culture

The Iglesia de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora has three naves and a square presbytery with a ribbed vault. Its high altar has three sections and four tiers and dates from the 18th century. The church includes a Santo Cristo chapel decorated with three Neo-Gothic blind arches.

History

Higuera de las Dueñas formerly belonged to the now-vanished convent of San Clemente de Adaja in Ávila. Later, the town became part of the lordships of Álvaro de Luna. After his death and during the reign of Juan II, Juana de Pimentel, known as the Triste Condesa, claimed Higuera de las Dueñas as her possession.

In 1488, María de Luna inherited the lordships associated with Higuera de las Dueñas. The third Duke of the Infantado founded the entail of Montesclaros in 1530. María de Luna was married to Iñigo López de Mendoza, Count of Saldaña and Duke of the Infantado; he established the state of Montesclaros.
