There are three hiking routes in Hernansancho for active exploration. Fuente Buena is a spring on the Ruta de las Fuentes in Hernansancho. Six springs in the Hernansancho countryside have been developed into fountains. These water sources therefore provide specific starting points for walks and excursions; the route you choose may depend more on your daily rhythm than on a long list of individual sights.

Church, town centre and medieval traces

The Iglesia de San Martín Obispo was built at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. At the end of the 16th century, it was extended with two side aisles; in the 18th century, the chancel and transept were given vaults and Baroque domes. The church has a slender masonry bell gable topped with tiles. During a tour, the bell gable and Baroque domes draw attention to different parts of the church. Hernansancho has medieval origins and was first mentioned in a document in 1250 under the name Ferrandsancho. The town centre also preserves a significant ensemble of traditional adobe buildings. The Ermita del Santísimo Cristo stands next to the cemetery.

Routes through La Moraña and regional orientation

Hernansancho lies at the intersection of the AV-804 and CL-507 roads. The AV-804 connects Ávila with Arévalo, while the CL-507 connects Sanchidrián with San Pedro del Arroyo. Stage ES09a-24a from Gotarrendura to Arévalo is 28.410 km long, leaves Hernansancho via Calle Mayor and leads onto a paved track. It passes through a roundabout, which allows you to bypass the CL-507 and reach Hernansancho. The stage length provides a fixed framework for planning the day; the change from Calle Mayor to the paved track marks this section of the route. The Camino de Santiago en La Moraña can be travelled by car in one day or on foot.

Nature and festival traditions throughout the year

The area around Hernansancho contains extensive maritime pine forests, the watercourses of the Adaja and Arevalillo with periodically low water levels, as well as small riparian forests and riverside vegetation. The maritime pine forests and riverside habitats around Hernansancho have been home to breeding pairs of Spanish imperial eagles. When observing nature, the maritime pine forests, watercourses, riparian forests and riverside vegetation can offer different impressions of the surrounding area. The Cristo de San Martín festival is celebrated at the end of September; horse races with ribbon loops are usually held as part of the festivities. The date at the end of September marks a clear period for annual planning.
