Landscape and Villagescape

The landscape of the municipality is open, characterised by holm oaks and narrow-leaved ash trees, and consists predominantly of pastureland. The village centre lies on an elongated hill and is bordered to the west by the Arroyo de la Cuquilla. The Arroyo de la Cuquilla crosses the municipality from south to north and is a second-order tributary of the Río Voltoya. The N-110 is the main transport route and runs directly along the village centre from east to west. The livestock trail Vereda de los Esquileos also crosses the municipality.

Culture and History

In the Middle Ages, Berrocalejo de Aragona belonged to the Cabildo de Pajares within the Diocese of Ávila. The present-day cemetery incorporates parts of a former church dating from the late 11th or early 12th century. The portal of the former church consists of a small Romanesque sandstone arch with six-pointed rosettes in beaded circles and an archivolt decorated with interwoven clusters of beads. The present church was built in 1960–1961 through communal work by the residents and houses a Baroque high altarpiece from the 17th century. In the 18th century, La Almohalla was one of the abandoned settlements belonging to Berrocalejo. The coat of arms features four rosettes, a fleur-de-lis and two-coloured stripes.

Public Places and Water

The public Fuente Los Caños is located in the Los Caños area. The Los Caños area was refurbished in 2018. In April 2018, water flowed from the three outlets of the public Fuente Los Caños. The viewpoint at the Arroyo de la Cuquilla was restored in 2017. A health park (Parque biosaludable) was completed in 2014.

Traditions

The patron saint festivals in honour of the Virgen de Aragona take place in August. In 2025, they were announced for 21 to 24 August, and in 2026 for 21 to 23 August.
