Miñortos: Coast, Trails and Cultural Heritage

If you include a coastal hike with a clearly stated distance in your plans, the Senda litoral runs for approximately 30 kilometres. The coastal hiking route runs between Punta Cabalo in Miñortos and Espiñeirido in San Pedro. The approximate length describes the route as a whole, while the two points mentioned mark its geographical reference points. This keeps the distance as an independent point of orientation alongside the individual place and landscape names.

Coast and Nature

The coastal strip from Punta de Cabalo Baixo northwards has been included in the network of natural areas of Galicia. It is also included in the Natura 2000 network. The LIC Esteiro do Tambre covers the coastline between Punta Mexilloiro and Punta do Cabalo. Cabalo Baixo is a headland on the southern shore of the Ría de Muros e Noia, in the coastal area of the parish of Miñortos. The associated coastal area lies in the municipality of Porto do Son. A Gafa Beach is located in the parish of Miñortos (San Martiño), at the place of A Gafa. Thus, different geographical references exist alongside one another along this stretch of coast: the Cabalo Baixo headland, the defined coastline of the LIC Esteiro do Tambre, and the individual A Gafa Beach at the place of A Gafa. The classification of the coastal strip and its location within the parish remain separate pieces of information.

Hiking Routes and Cultural Heritage

The A Ornanda route starts at Playa de la Ornanda Beach and also ends at this beach. The Casa de la Inquisición is a named point of interest on the A Ornanda route. A coat of arms is located on a window ledge of the Casa de la Inquisición. The Ermita de los Desamparados, with its cruceiro, is a named point of interest on the same route. The Castro de San Lois is a smaller archaeological castro associated with Miñortos. On the A Ornanda route, the Casa de la Inquisición and the Ermita de los Desamparados with its cruceiro are therefore listed as named points; the coat of arms on the window ledge forms part of the description of the Casa de la Inquisición. Alongside these, the Castro de San Lois and the Igrexa de San Martiño de Miñortos represent further named cultural sites, each with its own geographical reference.
