Trails
The Ruta Zas – Rial de Abaixo begins in front of Zas Town Hall. The Ruta Río Grande passes through Zas and is 22 kilometres long.
This means that Zas offers both a trail with a fixed starting point in the town centre and a circular route with the same starting and ending point.
The Ruta del Agua in Zas is a 10-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at the Ponte do Sisto in Zas. The Ruta del Agua leads to the Budián waterfall. There are five mills in the area around the Budián waterfall.
The Cascada de Rabiñoso is located on the Ruta del Agua in Zas. It is surrounded by dense riverside woodland and an old flagstone bridge; there are two mills in the surrounding area. The Ruta da Auga runs along restored old roads and riverside paths.
The watercourses shape the trail description just as much as the preserved traces of former uses: in addition to the waterfalls, the listed features include mills, the flagstone bridge, and old roads and riverside paths.
Culture
The Iglesia de San Andrés de Zas was commissioned by Álvaro Núñez de Lamas in the 16th century. The sarcophagus of the founder’s mother is located in the Iglesia de San Andrés de Zas.
The Torres do Allo were built in the 16th century on the remains of an earlier fortress. This earlier fortress had been destroyed by the Catholic Monarchs. Today, the Torres do Allo serve as a heritage interpretation centre and an ethnographic museum.
At the Museo do Liño (Baio), visitors can follow the entire production process of linen, from cultivation to weaving. The Museo do Liño houses a loom that is more than 200 years old. The museum organises live demonstrations and educational activities about linen craftsmanship.
The combination of the production chain, historic loom and demonstrations makes various chronological and practical aspects of linen craftsmanship visible in the museum.
Pozo de Limideiro is a former gold and tin mining site on the banks of the Xallas River.

Nature
Along the Ruta Río Grande, riverside woodland grows with alders, oaks, birches and willows. Among other species, these riverside forests provide a habitat for Iberian frogs, mallards and trout.
The Pedra Vixía nature area is located where the Zas River flows into the Río Grande de Baio. It features oaks, alders and mills. Rocks rise up on both sides of the river there.
The landscape description therefore encompasses both the riverside forests shaped by trees and wildlife and the striking river mouth with its rocks and mills.
The Mirador de Pico de Meda is located at an altitude of 556 metres. From there, views extend across the Val de Soneira. In clear weather, they reach as far as the Atlantic Ocean.
Traditions
The Carballeira de Zas folk festival takes place in Zas on the second weekend of August.
The event date is therefore clearly fixed in the annual calendar: the festival is assigned to the second weekend of August.
