Culture

The Monasterio de San Martiño de Xuvia (Monasterio de O Couto) preserves a Romanesque church from the 12th and 13th centuries and is a protected monument designated as a BIC. Pena Molexa is a megalithic complex and is considered important cultural heritage, with a possible dedication to an ancient funerary cult.

The 35,000 m² Aldea Nova theme park recreates life in a typical Galician village. The opening hours of theme parks should be checked before visiting, as they determine the time available for the visit.

Routes

Narón is one of the starting points for many hikers on the Camino Inglés to Santiago de Compostela. The NARÓN 100 stone marker indicates that 100 kilometres remain to the capital of Galicia. The Camino Viejo a San Andrés de Teixido partly follows the route of the old pilgrimage path to Santo André de Teixido.

A nine-kilometre route runs along the banks of the Río Xuvia. It leads as a pleasant, downhill walk through lush vegetation to the Ría de Xuvia. For hiking trails, it is advisable to check the current trail conditions before setting off and, if the route is to be combined with public transport, the applicable timetables. The route length and gradient can also be taken into account as practical planning information. Nature

The recreational area on the Río Xuvia in Pedroso includes a campsite, a river beach, restored old mills, a children's playground, picnic tables and barbecue facilities, green spaces, walking paths and bridges. The area is suitable for a family day by the river; almost its entire perimeter lies within a protected natural area. For riverbanks, walking paths and bridges, it may be advisable to check the current trail conditions before the day of travel.

The Xuvia-Castro nature area was added to the Natura 2000 network in 2001 and covers approximately 2,000 hectares. The Monte da Lagoa area in the parish of O Val in Narón lies within the Costa Ártabra natural region. The Costa Ártabra area is designated as a Site of Community Importance (LIC) because of its ecosystems and special characteristics.

Narón and neighbouring Ferrol have a shared public bicycle service that is available to registered users at several locations in the city. The AP-9 motorway (Ferrol–Narón–Madrid) is connected by high-capacity roads to Freixeiro, A Gándara, O Ponto (Xuvia) and the Río do Pozo industrial area. For the bicycle service, the applicable operating hours can be checked before the journey.
