Coast

The Senda Azul, also known as the Paseo marítimo Arteixo-Barrañán, connects seven of the nine beaches in the municipality of Arteixo. It runs from Sabón Beach to Barrañán Beach. In addition to the beaches, there are several car parks along this route. The Senda Azul is approximately six kilometres long.

Other places at a glance: Vachao, Bandón, Dodro, Figueiroa, Paderne, Artes, Boiro and Braño.

Culture

The Museo Mar de Sorrizo is located in a former marine research centre from the 1980s. This centre was converted into an interpretation centre for the Natura Costa da Morte network. The museum has an exhibition area and an area for educational talks. Located directly by the sea, the Museo Mar de Sorrizo serves as a viewpoint over the coast of Arteixo.

The Iglesia de San Tirso de Oseiro is a Romanesque church. Its architecture includes a single-nave layout, a rectangular apse and a semicircular barrel vault. One corbel of the church depicts a chalice with a host. This representation could be the oldest known depiction of the coat of arms of Galicia.

Inside the Castro de Pastoriza is the object known as the “Silla del Rey”. According to tradition, it is attributed to the Suevic king Reckiario. Ponte dos Brozos is said to have formed part of Via XX.

The design of the Iglesia de San Tirso de Oseiro thus remains clearly structured: the single-nave layout, the rectangular apse and the semicircular barrel vault together form part of the church’s Romanesque architecture. The corbel with the chalice and host adds a single pictorial motif with possible heraldic significance to these architectural features.

Nature

Fraga de Sisalde in Barrañán and along the Boedo River is a natural area. It includes floodplains and marshland in the lower riverbed as well as the Sisalde forest. The flora of Fraga de Sisalde is diverse. The natural area also has a species-rich vertebrate fauna.

This vertebrate fauna includes reptiles, amphibians and birds such as the reed bunting. Mammals found in Fraga de Sisalde include the otter.

Fraga de Sisalde therefore encompasses different landscape areas: the lower riverbed is characterised by floodplains and marshland, while the Sisalde forest forms another part of the natural area. The wildlife mentioned ranges from reptiles and amphibians to birds and mammals such as the otter.

Events and Wellness

The Feira Histórica Arteixo 1900 is a traditional event. It takes place on the third weekend of October. The Balneario de Arteixo was built in 1760. The historic spa is known for its salty waters containing iodine and bromide. These waters have mineral-medicinal properties and emerge at temperatures between 25 and 47 °C.

The date given for the Feira Histórica Arteixo 1900 is the third weekend of October. The Balneario de Arteixo, on the other hand, combines a construction date of 1760 with the waters described: they are salty, contain iodine and bromide, and emerge within a temperature range of 25 to 47 °C. Their mineral-medicinal effect is also among the properties mentioned.

The historical references thus range from the Romanesque Iglesia de San Tirso de Oseiro and the Castro de Pastoriza to Ponte dos Brozos, whose connection with Via XX has been handed down through tradition. The museum, the traditional event and the spa add further named cultural and local features.
