Routes and historic crossings

The Camiño Inglés crosses the municipality of Paderne and forms part of the 11 km Miño–Betanzos section. The Camiño Inglés route through Paderne begins at Ponte do Porco and passes the mouth of the Lambre River and A Alameda beach. Ponte de Lambre is located in the parish of Viñas. Fernán Pérez de Andrade the Good commissioned it in the 14th century to improve the connections between Pontedeume and Betanzos.

The Ruta de Zarzo a Chelo is a 10.5 km circular hiking route with an approximate duration of three hours and a moderate difficulty level. It begins at Central do Zarzo in the parish of San Xulián de Vigo in Paderne.

Culture and tradition

In the centre of Paderne stands the Igrexa de San Xoán de Paderne, a Baroque church. The Igrexa de San Pantaleón das Viñas is a 12th-century Romanesque church in Montecelo, in the parish of San Pantaleón das Viñas.

Behind the parish church of Santiago de Adragonte is the Sartego de Santiago de Adragonte, an anthropomorphic tomb dating from before the 13th century. Due to its rounded shape and the simple decoration on the lid, it is considered an unusual and important piece of Galicia’s cultural heritage.

The traditional Entroido de Samede is a carnival featuring the characters Bonitos and Vixigueiros, as well as a procession through the hamlet.

Nature and special experiences

O Coto de Chelo on the Mandeo River is an 11 km fishing stretch. It extends from the mouth of the Mainzoso stream on the boundary between Coirós and Paderne to the village of Inferniño on the boundary between Aranga and Irixoa. Salmon, sea trout and trout can be caught there.

In Donín, Paderne, Orballo offers a guided tour lasting just over 1.5 hours through the company’s organic cultivation areas. Visitors learn about the cultivation of aromatic plants and tea and can sample products.

CORAX is a zoo in San Xulián de Vigo, Paderne, and is located on the Camino de Santiago.
