Nature and Route

Small natural pools form at Caldeiras do Río Castro. Their formation is due to river erosion. At Caldeiras do Río Castro, the Río Castro overcomes an elevation difference of 8 m. Caldeiras do Río Castro are located in the parish of San Pedro de Coucieiro.

The route is called Ruta Caldeiras do Castro – Coucieiro. It begins at Caldeiras do Castro. Its endpoint is also at Caldeiras do Castro. For planning purposes, the shared starting and ending point can be treated as a circular route.

Access to Caldeiras do Río Castro is via the AC-440 road. From Muxía, follow the road towards Fisterra. After Moraime, follow the signs for Vilarmide and Couceiro. After approximately 12.5 km, you will reach the turn-off for Área recreativa do Castro. Park the vehicle there. From the Área recreativa do Castro, a short section is covered on foot.

The approach route therefore has several named landmarks and directions in succession: the AC-440 road, the direction of Fisterra from Muxía, Moraime, the directions for Vilarmide and Couceiro, and the turn-off for Área recreativa do Castro. The approximate distance of 12.5 km applies to this approach section.

Caldeiras do Río Castro are associated with the Camiño de Fisterra-Muxía pilgrimage route. The natural site is therefore also explicitly connected with the pilgrimage route.
